da premier bet: Wolves ace Adama Traore has revealed that he was routinely involved in fights when he was a child and that he was often asked to join street gangs, per AS.
What’s he said?
da heads bet: Traore has emerged as a Premier League star this season, scoring four goals and registering seven assists in the top-flight.
The Spaniard grew up in L’Hospitalet and came through the youth ranks at Barcelona.
And he has now lifted the lid on the difficulties he faced as a child, insisting that he had to fight his way out of a remarkably tough neighbourhood.
Asked if he was tempted to join a gang, he said: “Yes, yes, yes. A lot of times. Me, my brother, a Dominican friend, everyone. In this time being part of a gang was something which made you popular.
For true Wolves fans only: How much did each of these players cost?
“But we had a different mentality, we wanted to be footballers and not part of some gang – and didn’t want to fight. You saw fights almost every day.”
Asked if he was a witness to any scuffles, he added: “I was in fights! Yes, of course. In the school I went to there were gangs.
“They fought amongst each other constantly. They’ve done a great job in Hospitalet and everything is a lot calmer now.”
An inspiration
Traore is an inspiration to all kids with dreams of making it as a professional footballer.
He has risen out of a genuinely difficult childhood into one of the fastest rising stars in the Premier League.
Blessed with searing pace and a physique that makes him a nightmare to wrestle off the ball, he is on the verge of becoming an established talent in the top-flight.
Indeed, Wolves are just five points off fourth-placed Chelsea and could conceivably be playing Champions League football next season.
Traore will surely play a key role in their hopes; succeeding would be just reward for the inspirational winger.
