da leao: Everton boss Marco Silva should offload out-of-favour striker Cenk Tosun in January and target a move for West Brom’s Jay Rodriguez to replace him.
What’s the situation?
da spicy bet: Everton’s lack of squad depth came back to haunt them as they were beaten 1-0 at Brighton on Saturday, and Tosun was once again left out of the match day squad by Silva, with summer signing Richarlison starting up front and youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin coming off the bench.
After the win over Burnley in midweek though, where Tosun was also left out, the Everton boss confirmed that the Turkish striker still has a future at Goodison Park.
However, Silva should seriously consider revising his stance and accept any offer that comes in for the 27-year-old in January – just one year after Tosun arrived at the club.
Better options
The Toffees would surely be able to command a reasonable fee for Tosun given that they themselves paid £27m for his services last January, and that money could be better spent on a more prolific goalscorer.
A hard-working but technical striker such as Rodriguez could be the perfect buy for the Merseyside club as they look to break into the top six.
The former Southampton man is a quality Premier League player and is too good to be plying his trade in the Championship, despite the quality of the division this season.
At 29-years-old he is experienced enough to lead the line for Everton, and his 12 goals so far this season prove that he would offer a better return than Tosun and Calvert-Lewin currently do.
