da gbg bet: Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao looking at being some of the worst signings Manchester United have made for a number of years. Ever since signing for the Lancashire club in September 2014 the pair have struggled to find their form.
da spicy bet: Falcao has only made 16 appearances for the club scoring just four goals. Di Maria has also made less than 20 appearances only hitting the back of the net three times.
He now finds himself at the centre of more controversy after getting sent off in Monday night’s FA Cup match against Arsenal. In a moment of madness the Argentinian managed to get two yellow cards in one minute leading to speculation he may be sold at the end of the season.
Every six months, clubs enter the transfer window with the hopes of signing the perfect players but sometimes teams and players just don’t mix and that “perfect” signing ends up being a nightmare.
In of Man United’s recent struggles, here are FIVE of the worst signings in the Premier League in the last decade:
Charlie Adam -> Liverpool, July 2011
After being Blackpool’s best player for a number of years, Adam was sold to his childhood team for £6.75million.
Whilst he managed to win the League Cup final the Scotsman didn’t quite have the impact everybody at the club had hoped.
Throughout the season he played 28 games, but only managed to score twice, meaning at the end of the season he was quickly sold to fellow Premier League side, Stoke City.
Saldado -> Tottenham, August 2013
Roberto Soldado moved to the Premier League in 2013 but he has struggled to find form at White Heart Lane.
He is popular amongst his team but many fans aren’t feeling the same way with him with the Spaniard only scoring 15 goals since he joined the side.
There are many rumours flying around about his end being near at Tottenham and I would be very surprised to see him in a white shirt next season.
Shevchenko -> Chelsea, May 2006
When Andrei Shevchenko joined Chelsea it looked like a match made in heaven. He was one of the best strikers in Europe and they were the richest who had just won back-to-back Premier League titles.
But it was more like a match made in hell.
Over time it became clear that Jose Mourinho didn’t rate him and it soon came to light that it was owner Roman Abramovich who had insisted on the signing. Shevchenko slumped into a mixture of unfitness, injury and a lack of confidence before eventually being sold to his first club Dynamo Kiev.
Andy Carroll -> Liverpool, January 2011
When Andy Carroll joined Liverpool for £35million nobody could quite believe their eyes – the price was simply astonishing. Yes, Carroll had scored 31 goals in 80 appearances for Newcastle but was he really worth that much?
The answer was no and that was the end of his scoring prowess. 18 months later the target man had only netted six goals – nearly £6million per goal!
He quickly headed out of the door and went down as one of the worst signings Liverpool ever made.
Van Gaal’s new boys, September 2014
Sitting at in not so proud position at number one is Manchester United’s September signings. It was always going to be a hard job for whoever tried to go after Fergie but Van Gaal’s signings really have been appalling.
I’ve already mentioned Falcao and Di Maria but Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, and Daley Blind can all qualify to be some of the worst signings ever made. They have all struggled with form or injuries since joining and that doesn’t even mention a certain Victor Valdes.
He has made a fantastic ZERO appearances thus far, and I have to wonder, has anyone actually remembered they signed him?
