According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, Aston Villa are interested in signing Burnley’s Ben Gibson.
What’s the word?
Gibson’s move from Middlesbrough to Villa hasn’t gone well at all with the central defender playing just a single Premier League game for the club after arriving last summer.
The Clarets signed the 26-year-old for a considerable fee of £15m but just a year on he could depart.
TEAMtalk have learned that Burnley have told the defender that he can leave this summer and that they’d consider a possible loan deal.
Per the report, Gibson has attracted the interest of various clubs including Aston Villa as well as the other two newly promoted sides; Norwich and Sheffield United.
Mings trick being repeated?
In Dean Smith’s short spell with Villa so far he was able to completely turn around the career of Tyrone Mings.
The Bournemouth man was an injury prone player who had struggled to get into the Cherries side, featuring just five times in the opening half of the campaign.
However, after moving to Villa on loan he was an instant success and managed to go from being an outcast under Eddie Howe to becoming a leading light thanks to Smith.
Gibson has also been incredibly out of favour and the fact he only played five times in all competitions throughout 2018/19 tells you all you need to know.
Burnley had a wretched start to the season after exiting the Europa League but that wasn’t even enough to get him in the side on his return from injury.
A loan move, therefore, could be exactly what he needs after a dismal term.
Aston Villa took a number of loan players on last season, making use of the market in brilliant fashion as they went onto to secure the services of Anwar El Ghazi and Kortney Hause on temporary deals after their successful loan stays.
If Burnley are considering allowing Gibson to leave on loan, the Villans should certainly look to repeat the success stories they’ve created in the last six months.
Mings came on leaps and bounds under Smith and that can serve as a sign of things to come should Gibson also make a similar move.
The Villa boss has already worked wonders before, it’s time for him to do it again.
