da brwin: Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Marcus Thuram and now a new update has emerged on the player’s future at Borussia Monchengladbach.
What’s the latest?
da blaze casino: According to Sport BILD (via Fussball Transfers), Thuram is not keen to make a switch to St James’ Park in the January transfer window.
As per the report, the striker would prefer a move in the summer as he doesn’t want to rush into any decisions mid-season and isn’t swayed by finances but rather the potential success on offer, with somewhere like Bayern Munich more appealing right now.
Howe is surely frustrated
Eddie Howe will surely be frustrated with the news that Thuram could potentially avoid a move in January as the manager will be wanting his team to push on in the Premier League over the second half of the season to retain their top-four status and secure Champions League football ahead of schedule.
The Magpies are currently third in the league table after an impeccable run of form over their first 15 outings in losing just one game and matching Arsenal for the best defensive record in the entire top flight, something Howe will want to emulate over the second half of the season when his team return to action after Christmas.
Newcastle also remain in both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup so adding depth in January would be hugely advantageous to the manager as he tries to not only maintain the Premier League form but also have a competitive run in domestic trophy opportunities too.
As a result, the signing of Thuram – who is valued at £8.5m, according to Fabrizio Romano – in January would’ve been a great chance for Howe to add even more attacking depth to his already impressive forward line at St James’ Park.
The Gladbach goal machine – who was hailed “world-class” by Daniel Farke – has been capturing attention for his goal-scoring form for the German club, which ultimately earned him a spot in the France World Cup squad in Qatar.
Over 119 appearances for his current club Thuram has scored 41 goals and delivered 26 assists with a goal contribution every 119 minutes, which is a consistent and reliable output in front of goal that could be a valuable asset for Newcastle.
With that being said, the signing of Thuram would be a major coup for the Magpies and the powers at St James’ Park will be hoping they can convince the striker to make the move to the North East sooner rather than later.
