Left-back was a real problem position for Manchester United last season, with Jose Mourinho selecting no less than five players for that role in the Premier League – Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo.
Of course, the Portuguese’s first campaign at Old Trafford was very much one of transition, so it seems unlikely Young and Rojo will be called upon at No.3 in the coming season considering its neither’s primary position.
But that still leaves Mourinho with a choice of three players, or alternatively a month to make a left-back signing before the summer transfer window slams shut.
With that in mind, we put that exact question to Manchester United supporters earlier this week, asking which left-back should be the first-choice No.3 this season or whether Mourinho needs to acquire one via the transfer market.
And according to our poll, the majority of United fans – 60% – think the England international should be the primary left-back this season, despite him being ruled out with injury until midway through September. Whether Mourinho agrees with the fan base, however, remains to be seen.
