da dobrowin： Zicu was speaking to Romanian show Friends of Ovidiu on GSP.RO. With Hagi being one of the best young talents in the country, it was no surprise to see him come up in conversation.
The ex-Dinamo Bucuresti player had nothing but praise for the £5.4m-valued 22-year-old (Transfermarkt), saying:
“From my point of view, we have to see in Ianis strictly the qualities he has. He has qualities at a very high level, in vision, in hitting technique, in the way he handles situations on the field. We don’t have to wait for Ianis to dribble four footballers and go alone to the goal. Or take the ball at full speed. He can’t do these things. But what can he do, I think he is in the top ten footballers in the world, in the age category he has. How he hits the ball, how he passes, how he thinks about the game.”

Hagi is no doubt a talented player, and has done well in his first full campaign for the Gers, scoring six goals and providing a further 11 assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt). He has played a big role for Steven Gerrard and co, and clearly has a bright future ahead of him.
However, if you compare him to some other 22-year-old playmakers, he has some work to do to match their level. Mason Mount and Martin Odegaard are just two examples that come quickly to mind. Hagi may one day be one of the best in the world, but he is a fair bit away from that status just yet.
